Elimination communication with a newborn focuses on holding baby out over a pot or container at likely times after feeds and wakes, watching early signals, using a cue sound, and keeping nappy backup. Newborn stage is an optimal time to begin.
Newborns pee often. Offer after feeds, on waking, and when you change a nappy. Misses are expected — you’re learning patterns together.
A comfortable hold supports baby’s back and thighs while you lean over a sink, pot, or outdoor spot. Keep sessions short and calm; stop if baby is distressed.
Add a consistent cue (“psss” or a word) so sound and opportunity link. Where there’s Whiffy (a toot), offer for Poo soon after.
Cloth or disposable backup is normal. Peach time (brief bare-bum air after a catch) helps bottoms stay happy between changes.
